Meta Quest violates the GPL and does not respect user freedom. By Contrast CNLohr's Wireless Vive with an Orange Pi (libsurvive #13)[1] can respect your freedom, so I plan to make a clone. I started using designing my own hardware for lighthouse 2.0 tracking based on Lighthouse FPGA [2] using KiCad, starting with a breakout board for the TS4231[3] from Triad Semiconductor. This IC is used in the Valve Index, a VR headset which works with Monado[4] even on OpenPOWER systems such as the Talos II[5] and Blackbird. After testing the breakout board, I plan to make a PMOD which uses the same geometry as the Lighthouse positioning deck. I have several FPGA boards including OrangeCrab[7] and BeagleWire[8] that work with libre toolchains including yosys and nextpnr. As a host interface I plan to use the RP2040[9].
